Walnut, Poppy Seed, Almond

Walnut and Chocolate Rugelach
This sweet crescent is placed twice a year on the table of the people of Jewish religion: once for Hanukkah (commemorating the Maccabean heroes ) and once for Tu Bishvat (the new year of the trees). The original recipe was more modest than its modern, Americanised version. Instead of cream cheese, curdled milk or sour cream was added to the flour, and the dough was filled with sugar and walnuts.

An excellent recipe. Characteristically Hungarian poppy seed savoury scones. It’s light and never dry. I just can’t stop eating it! But take care - this dough is ideal for small size scones only!

This cake is maybe the most popular and best known Jewish dessert. It is really delicious, I can highly recommend it to everybody!

Gerbeaud Cake
This is the classical Gerbeaud cake. I prepared it in a springform pan, because this way I can present at once the size/quantity proportion, but it can be cut into cake slices and simple squares too. This is a delicious, lasting favourite!

Preparation time: 160 minutes + 1 day cooling

Strawberry Poppy Seed Cake
This is an excellent poppy seed cake recipe. The photos speak for themselves. The only thing I can add is that strawberry goes really well with the poppy seed cake.

Preparation time: 100 minutes

2 ml brown rum

Bejgli - Hungarian Walnut Roll
This roll, the bejgli [‘bεjgli] is a Hungarian speciality. It is made mostly for Christmas or Easter. Traditionally it is filled with walnut or poppy seed filling, but nowadays new fillings are being experimented upon. Now I present the preparation of the traditional walnut-filled roll.

Preparation time: 180 minutes + 25 minutes baking

  • Hát sajnos a magyarok nem igen adnak ki ilyen könyveket. Sőt a fordítással sem fáradnak. De van jó pár fordítóprogram ami segíthet.
